Types of dementia

There are over 100 different types of dementia, most of which are very rare, Alzheimer's disease is the most common.

I Have Dementia

Although there is no cure for dementia life can still be stimulating and fulfilling for someone with the illness.

For families

A diagnosis of dementia for someone in the family does not just affect the individual, it affects the whole family unit. Roles may change and decisions may have to be made.

For carers

Caring for the person with dementia may at times be challenging but small changes in their environment and routine can make a big difference

For young people

If you are a young person who knows somebody who has memory loss and confusion you are probably worried about what is happening. This is especially for you and may help you to understand more.

Safety in the home

Helping people to stay at home for as long as possible is important for their contentment and well-being. Your home can be adapted easily and cheaply to make it 'dementia-friendly'.
